Splitting

By Rabail Ansari

The project was centred around a word of our choice, and after choosing a word we had to design our structure accordingly.

My project word was initially “delaminating”, however throughout the course of the term it structurally evolved into “splitting”.

This particular aspect of the project focuses on designing a study space for students on the UofT campus.

I was inspired by the phenomenon that occurs when surfaces split off into other surfaces, so this structure explores the multiplicity of functions that one surface can have.

The stairs become stairs by splitting off from initial floor boards and the walls split off into enclosed study spaces for the students.
