The collage is based on de Chirico’s “Piazza d’italia.” The juxtaposition of subtly unfitting, unrelated things and the false projection of perspectives create a dream-like atmosphere.
The collage takes on his idea and generates a variation of “Piazza d’italia.” If you observe closer, you will find the following: Picasso’s sculpture, Le Corbusier’s Modern Chapel, the moon from Melies’ “A Trip to the Moon,” Monet’s painting, and Mark Rothko’s painting.
These objects are put into one frame in an impossible context to confuse the eye.
The still life is quite simply...a still life.
